Here at Archadeck of Nashville, we strive to design outdoor living spaces to benefit every member of your family. This includes the four-legged members and special pets that are also a huge part of your family! According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (ASPCA), it’s estimated that 70-80 million dogs and 74-96 million cats are owned in the United States. Approximately 37-47% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 30-37% have a cat. There are also millions of US households that own birds, rabbits and other unique and/or exotic pets.

Spending time with your pet(s) is not only relaxing, it has been shown to improve your health! An article published by WebMD points out that your dog may make you less likely to get heart disease. This is because dog owners walk more and have lower blood pressure than people who don’t have dogs. Pets can also be good for you if you already have heart problems. Studies indicate that heart attack survivors and people with serious abnormal heart rhythms who own dogs live longer than people with the same heart problems who don’t have pets. stroking, or petting, your pet can lower your blood pressure and help your body release a relaxation hormone, and it reduces levels of a stress hormone. Taking into consideration all the ways pets improve our lives, from both an emotional and physical standpoint, it only makes sense that the outside of our homes should be as conducive to spending time with them as the inside!

During our design consultations, it is not uncommon to be greeted by a friendly dog or two at the door or see a cat peeking from around a corner or napping in a sunny spot nearby. Since most of our clients count at least one animal as a member of their family, it only makes sense to give them some thought when you are designing your new outdoor living project. You may be surprised by exactly how many Archadeck of Nashville customers incorporate pet-friendly design details into their custom outdoor space.

Our custom outdoor living designs are the cat’s meow!

As is evident from the image and review this client left on Google, she and her feline friends are enjoying the Nashville Eze-Breeze porch we built for her.

— Working with Russell and his team was an absolute pleasure. I’ve never worked with a contractor as professional as this, and their attention to detail (above and beyond my own expectations) was phenomenal. I highly recommend them! We love our Eze-Breeze system and spend so much more time on our back porch!

Archadeck of Nashville has customized many outdoor structures to make them more pet-friendly. This includes fabricating the rails of a deck closer together to ensure pet safety, installing gates to keep pets safe and sound, pet access doors and using pet screen. Another feature we often implement into our outdoor room designs to make them more pet-friendly is using a solid knee wall rail to eliminate screens on the lower part of the porch wall, altogether. We have even gone as far as to specifically design patios for homeowners with cats, these are known as catios, as well as cat porches and dog porches.
